A 23-year old woman identified as Shayna Skyes from North Philadelphia, Pennsylvania is accused of stealing two police cars during an multi-state police chase!
Shayna and her male accomplice stole one marked vehicle and when she crashed it police apprehended the man but Shayna got away and stole another one leading cops on a wild chase through the streets of Pennsylvania and New Jersey!
NORTH PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA – This police chase might sound more like a scene from a movie than something that could actually happen in real life.
According to local reports, police said a 23-year-old woman stole not one, but two police cars while officers pursued.
The woman, whom law enforcement sources identified Shayna Sykes, was eventually apprehended in Pennsylvania after a 15-minute, multistate chase, NBC 10 Philadelphia reports.
The action-packed pursuit began after a New Jersey officer made a traffic stopnear Camden Police Headquarters in New Jersey at 9:49 a.m., the station reports.
While the officer addressed the driver, Sykes and a man police identified as Blake Bills reportedly jumped into the open police car, hitting the officer with the vehicle as they drove away, according to the outlet.
With authorities in pursuit, the pair drove across the Benjamin Franklin Bridge to Pennsylvania and raced through the streets of Philadelphia until they crashed the vehicle.
At the time, authorities apprehended Bills, who was injured in the crash.
Sykes somehow managed to escape the scene and allegedly stole another police car, the Courier-Post notes.
“I never heard of anyone stealing two police cars in one incident,” Philadelphia’s Deputy Police Commissioner Richard Ross told reporters, calling the incident “bold, reckless and absolutely brazen.”
Fox 29 News reports:
That second cruiser was chased, and SkyFOX was overhead as it struck one pedestrian on the roadway, hit a moving box truck, tore through traffic lights and stop signs, went over curbs, swerved around poles and more.
The cruiser even started to catch fire before it wrecked on the 1100 block of Hope Street.
The female driver was then swarmed by officers and taken into custody.
According to ABC affiliate WPVI, a joint investigation has been launched by the Camden Police, the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office and the Philadelphia Police Department.
Sykes faces a wide array of charges in both New Jersey — where the chase started — and Pennsylvania.
