Chairs & Fists Fly At Country Club

When one hears The Springs Country Club located in Rancho Mirage California they may think sophisticated rich people playing tennis in tight fancy clothes, eating lettuce sandwiches with slivers of unidentified fancy ish and drinking wine.

While that’s what probably usually happens on Sunday afternoon The Springs Country Club turned into Fight Night as insults, chairs and fists were being thrown around like tennis balls from the ball machine!

RANCHO MIRAGE, CALIFORNIA — What began as a routine Homeowners Association meeting turned into something resembling a WWE wrestling brawl on Sunday at The Springs Country Club in Rancho Mirage.

According to Riverside County Sheriff’s Deputy Myling Bordeau, at about 4 p.m., deputies responded to numerous calls regarding a fight at The Springs’ clubhouse at 75 Columbia Drive.

The brouhaha erupted after the results of the board member election were announced, Bordeau said.

“Some people were upset that a certain person won and began yelling at him and pushing him,” Bordeau said.

The yelling and pushing quickly escalated to chair throwing, fist fighting and tackling.

A club security guard pulled his gun during the chaos, but held it at his side, Bordeau said.

One suspect who complained of pain from injuries and another suspect who suffered a seizure during the tussle were taken by ambulance to Eisenhower Medical Center, deputies said.

While more than a dozen residents confirmed the incident, all were tight-lipped about commenting on exactly what happened.

“The less we talk about it, the more it is forgotten,” said resident Denver Ginsey.

Calls to HOA manager Kelly Robertson were not returned.

Founded in 1975, the club consists of 385 acres of land that include homes, an 18-hole golf course, 46 pools and spas, a 48,000-square-foot clubhouse and tennis complex with 11 courts.

“A past issue of Tennis Magazine referred to our tennis complex as ‘one of the 10 best tennis facilities in the country,’” read the club’s website.
