Dexter Mills (born June 14, 1977), better known as Consequence, is an American rapper. He is the cousin of rapper Q-Tip of the hip hop group A Tribe Called Quest, and was formerly an affiliate of Kanye West‘s GOOD Music family.

Consequence made his first official appearance on A Tribe Called Quest‘s 1996 album Beats, Rhymes, and Life. After the group disbanded in 1998, Consequence was forced to search for a label on his own. Consequence soon earned a deal at Elektra Records.

He recorded an album’s worth of material to be released in 2000, but the label cut back that year and by 2004, the label had ceased operations. In 2004, he released the mixtape, Take ‘Em To The Cleaners, that featured songs recorded with Kanye West in 2003 and also featured artist such as RhymefestJohn Legend, and Kanye West, which would find its way into the hands of Kanye West after the two already had a well established music and working relationship.

After this West offered him a guest spot on his debut album The College Dropout. He went on to appear on West’s second album. In 2005, Kanye signed Consequence to his label GOOD Music, after already being a member of GOOD Music since 2003, through a deal with Columbia Records. In 2007, Consequence released his debut album, Don’t Quit Your Day Job!. Singles from the album were “Callin’ Me” and “Grammy Family”. The album sold over 7,000 copies in its first week.

I See Now is his magnum opus which features Kanye West and Little Brother.

Since the release of his debut album, he has begun working on his second album, which was initially titled You Win Some, You Lose Some, though was recently changed to Cons TV. The first single off the album Cons TV was “Whatever U Want“, which featured Kanye West and John Legend. The official remixes to “Whatever U Want” were the Bad Boy Remix featuring Diddy & The LOX and the G.O.O.D. Music Remix featuring Kanye WestCommonJohn LegendKid Cudi & Big Sean.

In May 2011, Consequence confirmed that he had dissolved his partnership with Kanye West and G.O.O.D. Music alleging he was not receiving credit for his work and that his sophomore release had been delayed due to a lack of progress from alleged producers West and his cousin Q-Tip. Consequence confirmed he had started his own label,Band Camp Records. Since then he has released four installments in the Movies On Demand mixtape series and he will release the mixtapeClub Certified 2 in 2013.
